Tea and Health

Tea has been appreciated as a healthy beverage for a long time. New research has proved it is truly a pharmaceutical treasure: Tea is health-promoting and has medicinal properties.

White Tea

It has been said for quite a while that white tea has medicinal properties. Its high content of polyphenol makes the tea special. Current researchers are trying to prove that white tea contains three times more polyphenol than green tea and therefore more effective. Polyphenol contains high levels of effective antioxidants which destroy free radicals and strengthen the immune system. Consuming this tea on a regular basis can also lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Green Tea

Scientific research has proven that consuming green tea prevents the risk of cancer. Tumour biologists from the Karolonska institute in Sweden believe they have discovered that green tea suppresses malignant swellings (Magazine Nature vol. 398, p. 381, 1999).  Responsible for that is a substance called Epigallocatechin. You can find the same concentration in human blood after the consumption of 2-3 cups of green tea. That goes to show the immense effect of green tea.

Oolong

Oolong is wonderful and unique in its own way – it is a combination of the full aroma and delicious flavour of black tea combined with the healthy qualities of green tea. Oolong tea is also known for its fat burning effect. It stimulates the nervous system, raises the metabolism therefore activating the fat burning process. Oolong tea is often served with a rich meal in China.

Black Tea

Physicians discovered within the framework of a study that consuming black tea on a regular basis lowers the risk of dental caries. The content of black tea blocks acidic bacteria’s from growing inside of dental plaque, which are responsible for the development of caries.

Skoon Rooibos

The elegant flavour and the precious substances are the characteristics of this tea. The plant grows in the high mountain area of South Africa. This is why it contains more vitamins and is more nutritious than home-grown rooibos. It contains vitamin C, E and appealing antioxidants. That means it reduces free radicals and therefore protects the body from getting ill. It also contains important minerals and micronutrients in the form of potassium, sodium, calcium, zinc and copper.
Because of its high content of ferric, rooibos tea can be used as a supporting element during pregnancy. It is decaffeinated and is a non irritant and therefore can be given to children and infants as well. This wild rooibos tea can also be used for weight reduction because its natural sweetness can block the ravenous appetite for sweet stuff.

What are free radicals?

Free radicals cause early cell aging and are involved in the development of particular diseases.
Too many free radicals in any one organism can lead to cell damage and environmental pollution leading to ill effects of sunlight. Undernourishment caused by false food intake can lead to free radicals inside the human body and also cancer.

 What are antioxidants?

Substances which reduce free radicals in the body. Also called ‘radical interceptors’.
